Have a confession to make?

Confession of your sins is good for the soul, and an important part of Catholic tradition. And confession of your financial “sins” is a great way to start a conversation, learn from mistakes, and become more financially savvy.

Catholic Federal Credit Union, based in Saginaw, Michigan, decided to have a little fun with this tradition. We created a special “Financial Confessional” built with two compartments separated by a wall inside, complete with a “screen” between the parties to give everything the right look. The front is designed with large windows to encourage photos and social sharing, and both the inside and outside are decorated with plenty of fun examples of minor financial “sins” and the #cfconfess hashtag. All the walls are made of heavy-duty-but-lightweight foamcore boards to make it easier to transport to branches and special events.

The confessional is just one part of Catholic Federal’s year-long 60th anniversary celebration, along with a special logo celebrating “60 Reasons to Smile/60 Reasons to Switch.” (The “60 Reasons to Switch” portion of the theme will likely be used for a membership campaign later in the year.)

A special microsite was created at 60reasonstosmile.com that uses a scrapbook look in order to show CFCU’s participation in community events throughout 2016, plus highlight some of the 60 Reasons to Smile, and share member stories collected through CFCU’s main web site and social media channels. Posters, online banners, radio and outdoor were all part of the campaign mix.

Of course, is a celebration really a celebration without a T-shirt? CFCU certainly decided they were necessary for staff, using a smaller logo on the front to complement a larger, more playful version on the back.
