In Case You Missed It – 5.13.2026

Pope accused of crank calling his credit union, B2B video moves to LinkedIn, tips for networking on LinkedIn, and the struggles young member face today. Here’s what we noticed, in case you missed it:

So, the Pope doesn’t walk into a branch…

This is not a joke. When Pope Leo XIV (formerly Cardinal Robert Prevost) was elected last year, he called his bank in Chicago from his new digs in Vatican City to update his contact info. Even after verifying his identity, the bank employee insisted that he had to appear in person. After some back and forth, he mentioned that he was the new Pope and could not travel to Chicago anytime soon. At that, the employee hung up on the supposed prankster. The Pope later mentioned this to a priest in Chicago, who reached out to the bank president to make the needed “exception”.

No harm done, and it makes for a fun viral anecdote. But it also points out a significant gap in the unnamed bank’s processes. Ordinary people change jobs and move every day, sometimes to other countries. And there are many reasons locals might not be able to make it to a branch. We have to hope bank management has since updated their processes.

State of Video Report

Video hosting platform Wistia releases a “State of Video” report every year on overall trends in video deployment and usage. This year’s highlights include a clear pivot to LinkedIn over YouTube for B2B video, flat video budgets, and (of course) increased use of AI in video production. You’ll have to cough up an email (and do the tiresome unsubscribe dance later), but there are some great insights here. For example, the top kind of video is “Educational”; teach people something they need to know. And on page 25, there’s a great chart of the specific AI tools people are using for specific video production tasks.

Speaking of LinkedIn…

This article from Forbes is a great overview of 20 tips for networking, engagement, and interaction on LinkedIn. Notice how many of these tips have to do with being authentic and unique. They don’t say it outright, but I will; there’s a certain brand of excess and even toxic positivity rampant on LinkedIn that gets very tiresome very quickly. It takes a specific kind of mindfulness to rise above the clickbait and AI slop and be an interesting human again. Be human, be unique, be an expert, be interesting, be valuable, be real.

New college grads facing stiff headwinds

The is probably falls into the “blindingly obvious” category, but new college graduates in 2026 are walking into a very challenging career environment. This “graph of the week” from Callahan shows just how cautious employers are becoming. Still, there are bits of optimism to be found: “Since 2019, the percentage of employers who screen graduate GPAs has fallen from 73% to 42%.” Employers are looking more for demonstrated skills and work ethic than grades nowadays.

Almost every credit union I’ve ever talked to wants more younger members. From careers to student loans to housing and transportation costs, your younger members are facing more challenges than ever, and need to know how your credit union can help them build better lives.
